The 2025 Sundance Film Festival Reveals a New Selena Quintanilla Documentary Featuring Never-Before-Seen Footage.

Our Tejano queen Selena Quintanilla is getting a new documentary! On December 11, the Sundance Film Festival announced its selected projects for 2025, including a documentary featuring never-before-seen footage of the late Mexican-American superstar.

The festival’s program revealed a lineup of 93 feature films and episodic projects for next year. Among them, Selena y Los Dinos stands out, coinciding with Quintanilla’s 30th death anniversary. Directed by Isabel Castro and produced by Julie Goldman, Christopher Clements, J. Daniel Torres, David Blackman, and Simran Singh, the film promises an intimate look at Selena’s life and legacy.

The official logline states:

“Selena Quintanilla — the ‘Queen of Tejano Music’ — and her family band, Selena y Los Dinos, rose from performing at quinceañeras to selling out stadium tours. Her life and legacy are celebrated through never-before-seen footage from the family’s personal archive.”

While numerous documentaries and biopics have celebrated her life (who could forget Jennifer Lopez in Selena?), fans remain eager to learn more about the iconic singer. Social media users have flooded Sundance’s posts with praise for the film and shared their excitement.

“We are honored to have our documentary, Selena y Los Dinos, featured at this year’s Sundance Film Festival,” reads a post from Quintanilla’s official social media account. Her former husband, Chris Pérez, also shared the news, expressing his support for the upcoming project.
