Virtual job interviews are the thing today! Thanks to the advancement of technology and the fact that companies have been able to adapt to conditions created by the pandemic, it is not strange that nowadays you can apply for a position on the other side of the world from the comfort of your home!

However, many times that ease can make us fall into informality. When we’re in familiar territory we can forget that on the other side of the screen is a professional recruiter who is there to size us up and determine if we meet company criteria.

That is why, to facilitate your path to success, Philips Recruiters created a list of tips to make the most of these virtual tools to show off in your virtual job interview. Here are some of them. Take note!

1.- Look for a well-lit place, free of interruptions and with a good Internet signal so that your connection is stable.

2.- Opt for a professional look. Choose soft tones for your clothes and avoid bright colors or patterns. Also, if you wear glasses, adjust the lighting of the place, so that there is no reflection on them.

3.- In face-to-face interviews, recruiters say that eye contact is essential. That’s why they recommend looking at your computer camera, instead of looking at the screen, to create the feeling of eye contact.

4.- Give the interviewer your full attention. Smile, nod and maintain a positive attitude during the interview. This will convey the message that you are very interested in the position and that you are attentive to the conversation.

5.- Demonstrate your problem-solving skills. We found this point to be the most important, because when faced with unexpected situations, recruiters will take note of how you solve the problem. So, if there is a sudden noise that interferes with the interview, or if someone enters the room, it is suggested that you apologize, turn off the camera, mute the microphone and correct the interruption before returning to the interview. Believe it or not, in some cases this kind of situation can actually earn you points rather than taking them away. It all depends on your ability to stay calm and solve the problem.
